Ever since Google Adsense integrated Western Union payments to certain countries, including Philippines, receiving payments had never been so much easy.

There are many advantages of using Western Union as your preferred method of payment, but recently there had been some problems with other bloggers who receive payments from Google thru Western Union.

Rico of Technogra.ph recently had been hit with the wrath of strictness that some branches of Western Union Philippines has been implementing.

Apparently, when getting your payment through Western Union, one of the requirements that you would need to show are 2 valid, government issued ID’s. Well there wouldn’t be any problem with that but the problem would be if your Payee name on Google Adsense does not exactly match the ones written on your government issued IDs.

An Adsense Publisher would immediately want to modify his/her Payee name so that it would match his/her ID, but the problem is Google Adsense have this note:

“If you are located in China, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, or Thailand, you will not have the option to update your payee name within your account. Should you require a payee name change and you are located in one of these countries, you will need to close your account and submit a new application with your desired payee name”

Which is located at the Adsense support FAQ.

Then shock followed with a big sigh of relief after I read the note.

Shocked because I never thought that Google would remove the freedom of such users on the said countries to change their Payee names.

A big sigh of relief because around 2 months ago (November 2008), I was still able to change my Payee name without any problems at all. Nada – minus the note above.

Good thing that my Obsessive Compulsiveness somehow paid off, since I even included my Middle Name when I changed my Payee name on google adsense when it was still allowed.

This might be a bad news though for some adsense publishers since it would give them a certain amount of headache when claiming their payments from Google through Western Union.

The fix?

As what the note said, delete your adsense account and make another one. Quite a bit of a problem since its given that Google receives tons and tons of emails everyday and you might not get your cancellation approved in due time.

Tips for adsense publishers who are still starting it out?

Register with your full name along with full middle name just to play it safe. Para wala na lang din masabi yung ibang strict Western Union branches here in the Philippines.
