Halloween is fast approaching, here in our country it is also called Todos Los Santos and Undas. It would be around 3 week to go. Well this Halloween season may not have an impact on other people but it does for me, not because November 1st, or the all souls day is the time for me to go to the cemetery and lay candles and pray for the souls of my relatives that have passed away, but because it is a busy day at my place.
Why Is it busy at my place? Well read my article about it here.
So what to do at all souls day? Hmmm, some of the nice and creepy things to do at all souls day is to play horror games. I have always liked to play horror / adventure games on my beloved Playstation. But playing those games on Halloween is a nice idea, with the matching all lights out and sounds of half full blast. Well I never believed in ghosts. For the 22 years of living here on earth, and living just beside a cemetery, not a single day or moment that I have seen ghosts. It’s all in the mind you know. But the movies and stories and horror games are the culprit why somehow I have this tendency to think about ghosts.
As for horror gaming here are the top on my list when it comes to horror gaming experience.
Resident Evil 1 / Resident Evil Series (2, 3 / Nemesis, 4 and 5)
Wayback in Playstation 1 era, this game title hit the top of the list of “must haves” for PS1 gamers, I was one of the addicted individuals who have been hooked with this eerie genre on console gaming. Resident Evil 1 is a good choice for a good scare and thrill this Halloween season. Matter of fact of all the Resident Evil titles in the sequel, the classic Resident Evil 1 is the hardest and most creepy because everything seems to be so much quiet that you have to pay attention to the environment to know whether a zombie is waiting for you right after you pass the next door, or a zombified dog is just lurking around waiting to give you a good chase, or a mutant spider is ready to sip the life out of you. The good thing is that you’ve got an arsenal of weapons to blast of those zombies and monsters, from the ever handy combat knife to pistols, shotguns, to super weapons like, Gatling guns, grenade launcher, mp4 carbines, and the mother of all weapons in the Resident Evil series, the Rocket Launcher the bad news, the ammunition is very scarce, so you have got to work your way around, trying to run out zombies, dodge mutant dogs and pass through those black crows, spiders and lickers. Whatever it is, pay attention! Or else you’ll be eaten by those monsters yourself.
Silent Hill Series
I haven’t played not even once of this Silent Hill Series, but I have watched many gamers playing it including my cousin. Well, first, I was somewhat having a hindrance playing it since, it seems kind of weird, different monsters, one eyed, big armed, and whatnot that will give you a big chase around. And all you have got is a stupid metal bar. What the!! And the worst, a fork! Damn it! What do they want me to do!? Eat those monsters!?
Run for your life!
Rule of Rose
Another weird and suspense game set in 1930. You are a young girl who is left on an orphanage. Now this is somewhat a bit cross of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The only difference is that you wont see zombies but sadistic little girls, and an errie confusing orphanage. The one thing that I did not like most here is the disturbing and weirdness of the story, all you do is run from room to room to find the next thing or clue, but the problem is every room looks just as somehow identical to each other. Now who would not be confused about that? I wouldn’t know if I had been in that same room or not. But the environment gives this game the creeps, same quiet environment which is somehow ready to scare the hell out of you at any moment, and hey one of the memorable events that I had in this game is… I had to fight a monster with a damn f – o – r – k. Fcuk!!
Fatal Frame Series
I have played Resident Evil and it gave me a good scare, but still I have the guts to play it since I have a lot of weapons in my arsenal just waiting to be used. But I was intrigued with this game. I always believed that Resident Evil is the best when it comes into scaring the hell out of a gamer until I have heard of Fatal Frame. The title that I have played is Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented. What made me curious to play the game was, when my classmate back in my college days asked me if I had played a Resident Evil – Like game, and the only weapon that you have is a DSLR camera and The Classic Camera Obscura.
I was intrigued and curious so I played it and found out that there aren’t any zombies here, no weird monsters and what not, but what it has is the ever infamous, spine tingling, hair raising ghosts, white ladies and remember the child in the grudge? What about the Sadako like ghost in the grudge? Yup the one in the closet! That one, the game has it too, hiding also in the closet, wherein there is a hidden passage to an attic. Very Very Creepy!
One of the main goals in the game?? Take pictures… of those ghosts. That I would not do in real life!!
This game gave me the chills, even when playing it in the morning or during the afternoon. I have never ever played this alone.
The gameplay is creepy enough, then add the environment, then add the sound effects, then add those ghost that can harm you and the ghost that would not harm you and those goddamn ghosts that appear all of a sudden! UGH! Why cant they just give a warning that they are about to come out at least! Haha.
If anyone would see me playing this game, you would see me sometimes scream all of a sudden, sometimes jump out of my seat and then scream, and sometimes jump out of my seat, scream while making my character run like crazy since I am being chased by a ghost.
Well typically, you really need to face those ghosts and not to run away from them, which is the last thing that I want to do that I need to.
This game is by far the scariest so far in the horror games that I have played and then Resident Evil is next on the list.
Well whatever game it is that really scares the hell out of you, it is a good call to play it on All Souls day or Todos Los Santos or Undas or more widely known as Halloween!
Now those were both a trick and a treat for ya!
Happy Halloween!
