After the demise of one of the oldest “players” in web page browsing, Netscape gives way to the new player on the block.
Introducing, the Google Chrome. It is a new web browser launched by the famous search engine of the present Google.com. Google Chrome boasts of its sleek and fresh look and its so-called ” 1 box for everything” line. I have yet to test this new browser, and from what I see, this Google Chrome, even as a new browser on the block, can keep up against the big giants Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Mozilla’s Firefox and ASA’s Opera.

Google Chrome proudly announces its 10 features or the 1 box for everything slogan, but what are these 10 features anyway? Will it make a difference against the big and established browsers of the present time? So let’s take a brief look of its 10 new features.
1. Auto search on address bar
Well this feature is not new to the old browsers as of today, Internet has it, and Mozilla Firefox already has integrated it in its recent release of Firefox 3, not even Opera wants to be behind the pack, but one big difference on this is that Firefox and Opera browsers have google search engine integrated on its browsers.
2. New Tab Page
This is another feature google chrome is talking about, but I think this is not new anymore, Firefox may not have this yet but it will somehow in the future, but Opera is the first to have this feature and had it called “Speed Dial”, so I think there is nothing new to this feature, unless you haven’t used the Opera browser before.
3. Dynamic Tabs
Again another feature that is not new to the browsers of the present. All of the three has this feature already and has been evolving with its browsers ever since.
4. Application Shortcuts
This is again not new to the web browsing giants. It is even much easier to do this in the present browsers, unlike what google’s video of 10 features present. All you need to do was to drag and drop.
5. Crash Control
What the heck?? This is not a feature, this has already been on pc’s since day 1. All you need to do is to click ctrl+alt+del …. Duh!
6. Incognito Mode
Feeling a little paranoid? or just playing safe on browsing the web on public pages? Well incognito mode is here, but it does nothing much different than the other browsers capability to surf the web anonymously. Its just that here in Google Chrome, its just a few click away.
7. Safe Browsing
Afraid that you might enter a phishing site? Well don’t worry, Google chromes capability to warn you about suspicious websites can make you take a step away from such sites. It has a warning window that pops out whenever you are entering a suspicious site and will make you choose to think twice before entering a suspicious website. This feature could have been good, if it was implemented eons ago. Established browsers already have tied up with Mcafee’s Site Advisor that also has the similar feature. Site Advisor even has the password protect for its warning window, since children and teens that had been using computers and been surfing the internet has known the workaround on bypassing warning windows.
8. Instant Bookmarks
Just click the star on the address bar and you will be able to save the pages to you bookmarks. Well doesn’t that star resemble the star that the new Firefox 3 has?? Heck, this feature even looks similar to Firefox’s easy bookmarking method.
9. Import bookmarks and settings
Well, this is not new, Firefox even runs this kind of feature whenever you start Firefox the very first time.
10. Simpler Download
Well this last one is no different. Web browsers have been integrating this kind of simple download in its browsers. Firefox and Opera even has the resume option for interfered downloads. Well Firefox needs an add-on for the resume option but Opera has it built in.
So there you have it, this is still an early review since Google Chrome still has room to grow, and I can’t be judgemental until I have seen the real capabilities that Google Chrome can harness.
Maybe someday, in the near future, Google Chrome will have something that can differentiate itself from the established browsers of the present time. But as of now I will still be a Firefox and Opera User and maybe I can add Chrome on my list someday in the future.
And Google’s venture into web browser making looks promising.
