Well as for most users here in the Philippines who are experiencing a crappy connection from their own service providers (e.g. Smart Bro, Globe Broadband and PLDT MyDSL) this Open DNS would not be a new thing for them.
First of all the dns value for Open DNS is:
It is located on the lower right page of the Open DNS page.
Now what does it do? well it is an alternative DNS value that you can use freely, in exchange for your ISP’s given DNS values.
If experience crappy connection then you can change your DNS Values to Open DNS to eliminate the turtle-slow internet connection that you have been experiencing lately.
Lets skip all the talk and proceed to the PROS and CONS of using the OPEN DNS.
Note: The following are based on my own experiences, some other open dns users may or may not have experienced the following:
PROS:
- > Faster internet surfing experience
- > Much better control of your browsing security
- > Easy to Setup
- > Universal (users all over the world from various internet service providers can use this)
CONS:
- > The tight security disables some of your normal internet surfing habits such as (gambling sites, “pronn sites”, regular gaming sites)
- > Even proxy sites are blocked.
- > If you are doing some SEO research, well, sad to say, using OPEN DNS compared to other available DNS Values gives a different result.
