My New Toy MSI EX460 Entertainment Series

I got my new toy last week a day before my Greenlantern Server on Dreamhost bugged down. And since my hosting was down for a week, I was able to stress test this new MSI EX460 that I forcefully got (Yeah, Forced, Unplanned) since my brother needed a new Laptop so I gave him the MSI Megabook VR-K320 that I was using and decided the next day to buy a new one.

I got this new Toy of mine and never did I regret it. the specs and and all was just so enough for me, enough for blogging, enough for gaming and enough for everything that I wanted to do like watching HD Videos, I do note that there are already many NetBooks (10 inchers) out there which are much cheaper but I cannot sacrifice scrolling forever and ever up and down and side to side specially that I use computers most of my time.

Here are the specs of my new MSI Notebook EX460 Entertainment Series

.

MSI EX460 T6600

  • Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz
  • Ram : 4GB
  • Graphics : 512mb DDR2 ATI Mobility Radeon HD  4330
  • Display: 14″ 1366×768 HD, Widescreen LED Display
  • Storage: 250GB HDD
  • Webcam: 1.3MP
  • I/O: D-Sub X 1, USB2.0 Port X 3, Mic-in Port X 1, Headphone Output X 1, LAN Port X 1, Express Card X 1
  • Battery: 6 cells
  • Wireless Lan
  • Ethernet Lan
  • 4 in 1 Card Reader

For a complete list of features you can visit its page on MSI Global

It was priced for around 33k-35k PHP on computer shops on Gilmore but I got it haggled down to 31K PHP, and it came with a laptop bag which did not fit it right for the widescreen format of my MSI EX460, so I did buy a new bag for it.

What I really liked about this new gadget that I had was it was already HD Ready which means that I can already play HD Videos on it. By the way it also has got an HDMI Port on its side which is not listed on its page on MSI.

.

Plus the video card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 512mb dedicated memory. I thought it was high already since I was so used to 256mb of video card memory on my lower end systems, but lo and behold, it was also getting shares from excess RAM that I have got on my new MSI EX460 Notebook 4GB of RAM since my Windows Vista Home Premium only needs 1GB of ram for it to run which gives my video card additional 1279MB of Ram which is around 1.2 GB of shared memory which makes my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 from 512mb rise up to 1.7GB of memory!!

The Top Glossy Finish is also one thing that I liked, though I know that it would take extra challenge for me to take good care of it.

One of the downers on this spec though is that it does not come with a Blu-Ray Optical Drive unlike some other models of MSI, and it did not have an OS with it so I was obliged to buy a Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate which damaged me around 6K PHP 10K PHP

All in all, damage were around 31K + 6k (OS) so a whopping 37K PHP, but because of that I learned to love my new MSI EX460 Entertainment Series Notebook.

Update: Im only a week old on running on Windows Vista since I was loyal to Windows XP but due to the fact that I was not informed that Windows 7 would be out in the market by October 23, 2009, I had no choice but to buy Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

UPDATE:

A lot of people have already asked if there was really an HDMI Port available for this MSI Model EX460, and as far as what I can see, there really is one, I just did not have anytime however to test if its really functioning or not. Pictures of the HDMI port after the jump (Please bear with the resolution of the photos. Im gonna update it once I get a high end DSLR this Holiday Season).

    @Ced,

    hmm, try this one,,, go to webpage or a window or Microsoft word or anywhere, where you can be able to scroll, now the next thing that you do is to tap once on the page or window, just tap once on a blank space, and then start dragging your finger on the edge of the touchpad (right mouse button side)… I have put a diagram on the spot where you can do the touchpad scrolling here’s the image —->>>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/msiscrollkeycopy.png

    @melster,

    Yup tama, walang HDMI socket, I think sa ibang models with the same body as the MSI EX460 meron na kasamang functional port…

    @Pacquiao17P4P,

    I havent heard a lot about RMA transactions, but if my experience with my MSI EX460 no probs naman. wala din ako complaints… maybe other MSI Models ang may RMA transactions, maybe it is on the MSI Wind? I dunno, but I think the MSI Wind is one of the bestseller ngaun when it comes to Netbooks, which might mean more prodcuts being sold on that particular product the higher the chance of “lemon” products….

    But if I was in your place, and I do decide to go for MSI, I would make sure that I would put it into the “Stress test” mode para sa umpisa pa lang makikita mo na kung may problem, kasi may return and exchange policy naman ang mga reputable computer shops once you see some defect sa unit na makukuha mo…

    or much better, kung as in personal mo makikita yung Asus and MSI units na kinocompare mo, your instincts would not lie to you…

    And regarding to the MSI CX420, That is a new one, kasi yung mga models na kalinya nya is core 2 duo pa, samantalang itong new model is a Core i3 na… plus mataas na yung video card.. i think you should better go for that if you ever decide to go for the MSI Brand….

    anu po sa tingin nio mga bosing?

    Pacquiao17P4P Says:

    Dudes may nababasa ako sa tipidpc n when it comes to durability, they prefer AsusK4IN / K4AD over MSI. And sa MSI madami daw mga RMA transactions.. Next week p nmn n po ako bibili sana ng MSI ex460.. So far mga idols, how’s ur lappy doin?

    Another thing po is gagana b rito ung Battlefield Bad Company? tnx mga idols
