My New Toy MSI EX460 Entertainment Series

I got my new toy last week a day before my Greenlantern Server on Dreamhost bugged down. And since my hosting was down for a week, I was able to stress test this new MSI EX460 that I forcefully got (Yeah, Forced, Unplanned) since my brother needed a new Laptop so I gave him the MSI Megabook VR-K320 that I was using and decided the next day to buy a new one.
I got this new Toy of mine and never did I regret it. the specs and and all was just so enough for me, enough for blogging, enough for gaming and enough for everything that I wanted to do like watching HD Videos, I do note that there are already many NetBooks (10 inchers) out there which are much cheaper but I cannot sacrifice scrolling forever and ever up and down and side to side specially that I use computers most of my time.
Here are the specs of my new MSI Notebook EX460 Entertainment Series
.
MSI EX460 T6600
- Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz
- Ram : 4GB
- Graphics : 512mb DDR2 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330
- Display: 14″ 1366×768 HD, Widescreen LED Display
- Storage: 250GB HDD
- Webcam: 1.3MP
- I/O: D-Sub X 1, USB2.0 Port X 3, Mic-in Port X 1, Headphone Output X 1, LAN Port X 1, Express Card X 1
- Battery: 6 cells
- Wireless Lan
- Ethernet Lan
- 4 in 1 Card Reader
For a complete list of features you can visit its page on MSI Global
It was priced for around 33k-35k PHP on computer shops on Gilmore but I got it haggled down to 31K PHP, and it came with a laptop bag which did not fit it right for the widescreen format of my MSI EX460, so I did buy a new bag for it.
What I really liked about this new gadget that I had was it was already HD Ready which means that I can already play HD Videos on it. By the way it also has got an HDMI Port on its side which is not listed on its page on MSI.
.
Plus the video card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 512mb dedicated memory. I thought it was high already since I was so used to 256mb of video card memory on my lower end systems, but lo and behold, it was also getting shares from excess RAM that I have got on my new MSI EX460 Notebook 4GB of RAM since my Windows Vista Home Premium only needs 1GB of ram for it to run which gives my video card additional 1279MB of Ram which is around 1.2 GB of shared memory which makes my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 from 512mb rise up to 1.7GB of memory!!
The Top Glossy Finish is also one thing that I liked, though I know that it would take extra challenge for me to take good care of it.
One of the downers on this spec though is that it does not come with a Blu-Ray Optical Drive unlike some other models of MSI, and it did not have an OS with it so I was obliged to buy a Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate which damaged me around 6K PHP 10K PHP
All in all, damage were around 31K + 6k (OS) so a whopping 37K PHP, but because of that I learned to love my new MSI EX460 Entertainment Series Notebook.
Update: Im only a week old on running on Windows Vista since I was loyal to Windows XP but due to the fact that I was not informed that Windows 7 would be out in the market by October 23, 2009, I had no choice but to buy Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
UPDATE:
A lot of people have already asked if there was really an HDMI Port available for this MSI Model EX460, and as far as what I can see, there really is one, I just did not have anytime however to test if its really functioning or not. Pictures of the HDMI port after the jump (Please bear with the resolution of the photos. Im gonna update it once I get a high end DSLR this Holiday Season).

We have the same laptop… Just got mine the credit card way for Php34,900. I’m presently playing “Company of Heroes” on it and the performance is awesome…
One question though, I was wondering if I could still upgrade the 4 gb memory to 8Gb.Looks like the 4gb memory is already maxed out but I would like to hear other owners’ ideas… Tnx…
November 11th, 2009 at 11:53 am
@Pusang Kulog
As far as I know the max memory that MSI EX460 can handle is really 4gb, and so far from all the laptops that I have seen, the highest RAM that one can handle is 4gb as of the moment, and there were only a few of them and that includes this MSI EX460.
If you are really looking for higher RAM Capacity, then just wait around 5 months or so and for sure the max ram that a laptop can handle would really increase, but that is for newer laptops of course.
It might also be earlier specially now that Windows 7 is officially released and iCore desktops can now extend even up to 32gb and up of memory… For sure Laptops won’t get left that much behind.

Just to check, are you sure there is a HDMI port ? I have not seen the actual notebook but many pple I asked said there is no HDMI … hmmm, can you verify again ? Thanks
December 1st, 2009 at 3:59 pm
@Steven,
Yup, I have updated my post regarding the HDMI Port issue, there is one, and I have also added Pics of the HDMI Port and where it is actually located. Please bear with the photos since I only took it up using a camera phone
December 1st, 2009 at 9:27 pm
thanks ! It’s quite obvious from your picture and I wonder why all reviewers say there is no HDMI port for this lappy … hmmm – even the official MSI website …
unless yours come with special requirements ?
December 1st, 2009 at 9:44 pm
@Steven,
Lol, maybe, or maybe other reviewers may not have noticed the HDMI Port since it is subtly seen with a quick look, plus the engraved HDMI label is unreadable if not seen and looked at closely..
Other than that, its absolutely an HDMI Port, so if you would be looking for a bang-for-the-buck MSI Laptop, then you can get this model, the only thing that is missing here is a Blu Ray Optical drive and you’re good to go!
December 9th, 2009 at 12:34 am
there is an HDMI provision in the case of the EX460 but it doesnt have an HDMI port. if your photo had been the slightest in focus, it would have been very clear its covered and no actual port is available in the 31k version. if you force open the cover its empty.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
HDMI port is closed and can’t be open.. scks hehe. My issue with this is the touchpad, sometimes it works sometimes it wont.
December 18th, 2009 at 9:42 am
where in gilmore did you buy yours? im thinking of buying the same lappy, thanks
December 18th, 2009 at 11:59 am
@charles
I got it from PC Express. The one along PC Options side.

hi! my girlfriend’s planning to buy either this laptop or the asus k40in. i just want some feedback from a user.
how long does the battery last? is the power management software effective?
how about the temp? build quality? have you seen any problem with this model?
i’m an asus user myself, havent tried msi but heard lots of good things bout it.

Hi mark!
Thanks for visiting my blog, and regarding my personal experience as according to your questions, I can say that the 6-cell Battery of my MSI EX460 can last for about 4 hours or so if I have everything under my “personal tolerable minimum” (e.g. screen brightness at its lowest, speakers at 50%, a few background applications, and WiFi off), but once I have turned on the WiFi capability of my EX460, I can estimate that it can last for about 3 and 1/2 or so give and take… well that might increase unless I upgrade my Battery Pack to 9 Cell…
As for the Power Management Software, I can personally say that its effective enough. This laptop has 5 power management settings that you can switch with just the push of the (Fn Key+ECO Mode button) (Gaming Mode, Movie Mode, Presentation Mode, Office Mode, Turbo Battery Mode, ECO Off) well the power management settings pretty much explains what it does just from its name…
Regarding the Operating Temperature, well Im impressed with it since its really ready made to be used “on-your-lap” since it does not get that hot compared to my MSI VR-K320 which gets hot specially on the Hard Disk area. I can personally vouch that MSI EX460′s operating temperature can be given a grade of 9/10 being 10 as the highest when it comes to operating temperature.
Build quality is great, specially its weight, with its size of 14″ Widescreen, you’d be surprised that its light enough, to be easily carried around on one hand. But I suggest that you try to personally see that for yourself on Computer shops selling MSI EX 460.
Also the hinges on the Screen is pretty much snugly fit good enough to handle bumpy usage (e.g. when used inside a running vehicle) without getting those extra wobble.
and with the Problems, well so far, I have noticed that the Touchpad Buttons (left and right key) is pretty much made to be used for casual purposes only, it feels as if it can get problems early on if you would try to use the touchpad for gaming purposes. So I suggest using an external mouse for it if you would want to prolong the Touchpad Key’s life.
And if you are the type that wants to have the laptop have screen protector applied, you’d be pretty much having some hard time looking for one since the 14″ Wide Screen format of this MSI EX460 is somewhat hard to find, had mine custom fitted with a 17″ screen protector cut down to the size of my MSI EX460…
Other than that, this MSI Model is pretty much a bang for the buck for its Price vs Specs if you’d ask me…

Hi. I just want to ask about the casing. I have my MSI VR340 and the laptop hinge get cracked! I think its because of opening and closing the laptop lid. Can you describe the laptop lid and the hinge if they’re compact. I’m hesitating in buying this but this because of my experience in my previous.
December 26th, 2009 at 9:16 am
just wanna ask, san mo nabili yung keyboard protector mo?
December 26th, 2009 at 10:22 am
@mahal
sa CD-R King ko nabili. yung tig 50 pesos
December 26th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
hi, i just got my ex460 for christmas, but im having problems with the ECO button and the webcam, they dont seem to when i press fn+f5/f6.
im using windows7 32bit, do u know where i could get drivers? thanks.
December 27th, 2009 at 1:56 am
@charles,
where were you able you able to buy the laptop? I suppose that it is located in your MSI Drivers CD that came with Laptop itself.. When I got mine, I got 2 cd’s, the other one is a custom cd that the retailer gave me since it contains the latest drivers.
If you cannot find it manually on your cd then you would have to install the drivers located here > http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1854 >>Both the Simple Camera Application and System Control Manager
Tell me if that solves the problem!
December 29th, 2009 at 10:46 am
ask ko lng po bakit ung sakin 2hrs. lang ung battery remaining kahit kaka-full charge ko palang?pls help….
December 29th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Ilan cells yung battery mo? plus, anung os ang gamit mo? anung programs/applications ang nagrurun? naka-on ba yung wifi mo? naka full ba yung screen brightness mo? may nakalagay ba sa dvd drive mo? naka-full ba yung speakers mo? may mga nakakabit ba na usb devices sa MSI EX460 mo?
there are many factors kung bakit mabilis mag drain yung battery ng MSI EX460 mo which is why I cannot tell kung bakit ganun kabilis magdrain battery mo…
December 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
ah!ganon po ba yun.. pasensya na po kc ngayon lng ako ngka-laptop,akala ko po kc mga 5hrs ang pinaka max battery life ng mga laptop kpg full charge.. depende parin po pala un sa mga running application and function ng laptop.. usually po kc laging on ang wifi then windows 7 32bit gamit ko..programs naman, internet browsing plagi..screen brightness nka-half lang..speakers nka-full palagi kc medyo mahina speaker ng laptop..usb naman mouse lang nakakabit..6 cells lng pla battery ko…. can you give me some tips kung paano ko mapapatagal ung usage ko ng laptop with full charge?thanks in advance..
December 30th, 2009 at 12:10 am
@allan,
yup, most often than not ang pinakamalakas kumain ng battery life is the Wifi.
why not try the ECO Functions na hardwired sa MSI EX460. Try pressing Fn button and f5 para magamit ung ECO Modes.
From there you would see yung mga available power saving modes ng MSI EX460..
And yup tama ka, the speakers are somewhat mahina, kasi pangit ang location ng speakers mismo, nasa ilalim ng laptop, just behind the touchpad.
December 30th, 2009 at 12:28 am
ok thanks for that, may ask lang ako regarding bluetooth ng ex460?nkalagay sa specs meron sya pero hanggang ngayon d ko parin mapagana…do you have any idea regarding this?
December 30th, 2009 at 1:01 am
as far as I know, optional ang bluetooth, so you would have to buy the Bluetooth/wifi capable adapter for your msi EX460.
Ang nakalagay lang kasi sa package is yung wifi adapter and not the wifi/bluetooth adapter.
If I would be asked, maybe mas ok kung bumili ka na lang ng 3rd party bluetooth dongles such as the ones being sold sa cdr-king para mas makamura ka
December 30th, 2009 at 8:15 am
Thanks for the advice,ganun nlng ang bibilin ko for bluetooth. Sir, if i may ask, regarding durability ng MSI laptop,matagal ba sya masira?meron kc ng-comment na friend ko na ung MSI laptop nya raw before after 1 yr. lng sira na agad. based on your experience,you’re an MSI user, matibay b talaga ang LAPTOP ng MSI?
December 30th, 2009 at 8:31 am
additional question pala, how to use the memory card reader? kasi parang wlang specific size ung ilalagay… have you try to use it?
December 30th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Hello. Tanung ko lang kung ok ba yung casing niya? Yung nagcoconect sa lcd at sa body nung laptop? Di ba mukhang madaling mag crack? Madali ba uminit and sana makapag post ka pa ng more live pics. Hope you can answer my questions.
December 30th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
thanks for the advice, un nlng nga ang bibilhin ko.na-try mo na ba ung card reader neto?dko kasi alam kung paano gamitin….
December 30th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
thanks for the advice.un nalang bibilhin ko. about card reader..how to use that?blank lng kasi ung lagayan, wlang nakalagay kung anong size ang pwede….
December 30th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
pano naman po gamitin ang card reader neto?blank lng kc ng i-eject ko ung lagayan..pls help..
January 4th, 2010 at 10:01 pm
LJ, have been very happy with my msi ex460 bumili na din ako nung keypad protector sa cdrking. The only problem i’m having right now is the touchpad, sometimes it gets flaky parang nagd-drag cya and its really irritating the scrolling too minsan gumagana minsan ayaw.
January 4th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
by the way i have windows 7 64 bit installed as my os. and ive installed the latest syntelic touchpad driver. how i wish i could have the same old yet smooth touchpad from my hp.
January 5th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
@mahal,
Yeah, parang substandard yung touchpad nya kaya di ko masyado ginagamit, suggestion ko is to use an external mouse, like what I am doing. Atleast mas madali siya inavigate kapag may external mouse compared kapag wala.
What version of Windows 7 do you have on your MSI EX460? Hindi ka ba nahirapan maginstall ng drivers?
I had mine installed with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, yun nga lang yung CD nya with drivers pag sinaksak mo walang nakikita. Kaya I had to manually install it instead na install through the Autoplay window nung Driver.
Pero so far no problems at all naman.
About sa scrolling sa touchpad, Oo nga may scrolling pala, wala kasi nakaindicate sa touchpad na enabled yung scroll akala ko wala, kung di mo pa sinabi di ko pa malalaman haha.
January 10th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
i manually searched for the touchpad’s driver and got the scrolling, about my os i have win 7 64bit installed no problem with drivers here except for the flaky touchpad.
i use the turbo battery setting all the time since mobility is very important for me as a student i cannot sacrifice bringing a mouse and a mouse pad.
battery life for me would be at least 2 hours maximum would be 2hours and 30mins thats with a 20% screen brightness wifi on, browsing the net heavily, with about 2-3 programs open.
battery life is not good but at least it was better to my old hp which gave me about 2 hours maximum.
January 10th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
@mahal,
wow you mean mas matagal ang battery life ns sayo kapag hindi naka low lahat?, what version of Winodws do you have? I also have Windows 7 64Bit, Ultimate version…
Ultimate version din ba yung ininstall mo? the black one?
January 12th, 2010 at 2:56 am
i got around 2hr&30min low lahat. thats the maximum na nakuha ko sa battery nya. i also have the ultimate version.
by the way im having a hard time looking for a decent screen protector on this one, hirap kc madali madumihan ang screen and since im always mobile nakakatakot baka ma scratch kakapunas, any suggestions LJ?
January 12th, 2010 at 3:10 am
@mahal,
its a pain looking for one, walang kasyang size for the widescreen format ng MSI EX460… Your best bet is to buy the 17 inch screen protector sa Cdr-King or anywhere else you know, and then just cut it down to the size of your screen. Ganun lang ang ginawa ko.
Kung hindi ka sanay, its better to buy 2 pieces para atleast may backup ka kapag nagkamali ka sa una…
January 13th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
hi to all… i bought this laptop for my bro here in Riyadh. the problem i encountered with this is iyong screen nya goes blank.. stripes green and light green.. i cant do anything but to re start it.. tpos ok na ulit untill it occurs again.. dunno now how to deal with it kasi bigla nlang xa mag ba blank in the middle of something. i am pretty sure na its not its OS problem but instead hardware issue daw. my brother told me na problem din ito ng mga nakabili jan sa pinas because marami daw nag cocomplain sa mga shops ..maybe production problem nga iyong issue ng blank screen..
i would like to ask anyone who is using the same laptop.. nag kakaroon din ba kayo ng issue about its screen? kasi i brought this unit to MSI service center already and they told me na screen problem nga xa.. i left there for 2 days and they just told me na i cant get it back after a a day or two.. after fixing it, ginamit ko xa ulit to test if anything changed and there it goes again.. blank screen but this time color blue na xa “stripes” ulit with lighter shades nman..
if anyone of you guys encountered tbhis issue.. please do email me or maybe you can reply po to this post.. tell me what to do.. i need your help.. i tried XP..VISTA.. windows7., same thing.. i upgraded the graphics card and still.. dunno what to do,.. confuse.. sayang maganda pa nman specs nya.
HDMI>> no port po xa… i think, itong pinaka case ng laptop is the same with other model ng laptop made by MSI.. nagkakaiba lang po ung mga specs na asa loob pero ung pinaka design nya (exterior) is the same.. i saw one kind pero Nvidia nman gamit na graphics card.. with HDMI po un..
thanks again. looking forward po sa lahat ng gstong tumulong..
January 16th, 2010 at 8:08 pm
@Louis – bro I’m planning on upgrading my OS from 32 bit to 64 bit (Currently have Windows Vista Home Premium) to maximize my EX460′s memory to 4 Gig. Do you have any issues regarding the drivers, most especially the Wifi Drivers and Camera after upgrading to 64 bit?
I have checked some forums na nagkakaproblem daw sila dun sa Wifi and Camera after magupdate, pang 32bit lang ang drivers na nasa MSI Website currently. I’m just not sure nga lang kung legit ang copy ng mga 64bit OS nila or cracked lang.
January 17th, 2010 at 1:22 am
@Olrac Naig,
Well, yeah tama ka 32 bit lang ang nakalagay sa drivers na kasama ng MSI EX460, but I still did use the drivers which was included in the cd, yun nga lang eh pinili ko yung drivers na pang 64bit, if you would open the cd and explore through it mapapansin mo na meron pang vista na 64bit, yun ang ginamit ko for installation. yung Camera drivers what I did was just to install the Camera Recorder driver which is also included in the cd. Regarding naman sa wifi, kasi sa kasamang cd ng MSI EX 460, dalawa ang klase ng drivers, but the one that I installed was the “Realtek” brand and not the “Atheros” brand.
After nun, it works naman kasi parang may backwards compatibility and Windows 7, so I guess gumana siya for me. Kasi nakapagonline ako kagad. And then automatic nagrecommend sakin ng download yung Win7 ko ng compatible drivers which I downloaded immediately.
Reminder lang sa mga mag uupgrade to 64 bit, after you install or upgrade to 64 bit Win7, it would look like okay na lahat, as if no drivers needed, well guess what, it seems na walang prompt na kelangan mag install ng drivers, but you still need to or else magloloko yung mga buttons that should have been working in the first place (e.g. wifi button, eco button, volume button, touchpad button, screen brightness button)
Also a heads up, once you are running 64bit Win7 and then you inserted yung MSI Drivers CD, it would run Autoplay, but there wont be much drivers displayed (maybe because Win7 64bit does not detect the 32bit drivers in the cd anymore) that you can install, so that means that you would need to open and explore the disc manually, and then install the drivers needed.
I guess I might update this post of mine one of these days para makita kung anu anung drivers and kung san makikita yung drivers that had made my own MSI EX460 working like a charm on a Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:57 am
Hi. Umiilaw ba yung battery led ng laptop nyo pag nasa state na sya na malolowbat? Yung akin kasi hindi eh.
Lumabas na yung warning about sa low battery (7%) pero d parin umiilaw yung led. Sabi sa manual Glowing amber when the battery is in low battery status.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
@isenheart
No problems naman po on my MSI EX460, eto screenshots ko kanina as I discharged my battery para makita kung gamagana yung low-batt light. its actually like Red orange ang kulay nung light

and here it is once I plugged it in…
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/011820101458.jpg
try mo sya i-discharge until mag hibernate siya automatically, and then turn it on again up until magdisplay na yung desktop. kung wala pa din ilaw either drivers lang siguro po, kasi nagkaroon din ako problem dati sa MSI EX460 po, pero WiFi Light indicator naman, kahit i-on and off ko it just stay lit, not until I installed some drivers that I forgot to install, and everything worked perfectly.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:04 pm
@Louis – thanks a lot for the reply pare. Greatly appreciated. Masusubukan na naman yung lakas ng loob at pagkamaexperiment ko nito sa mga OS at software apps. This have greatly influenced me to go the 64 bit way! I surely love and am one proud owner of the EX460
January 18th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
@Louise
Hi sir!
January 18th, 2010 at 11:14 pm
@ Louise
Waaaah! Nakita ko din siya umalis. Triny ko yung sinabi mo na after maghibernate then turn on ulit! Umilaw na siya ngayon. Pero diba dapat iilaw padin siya kapag malolowbat na. I mean kahit hindi galing hibernate?
January 18th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
@isenheart
yeah, kung gusto mo kahit di galing hibernate, ituturn off mo yun hibernate on critical level (nsa advanced power settings), it would turn red without going to hibernation.
also, yung red-orange light eh pag critical (7% below) lang po sya.kapag lowbatt lng (8%-10%), hindi pa po talaga iilaw yan…
kapag battery drained, red na po ilaw nyan…
January 20th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
hi. nice blog.
we have the same laptop. it was a great choice in choosing this laptop. not a waste of money. btw, can anyone redirect me to a site which i can download drivers for the touchpad to enable its scrolling?. i am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit that has 32-bit compatibility mode. so 32 / 64 bit drivers are ok.
Thanks in advance.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:16 pm
@Ced,
Have you already installed the System Control Manager?? If not then you should and the Touchpad scrolling should now be enabled…
If you cannot find it in your cd, then try downloading it on MSI EX460 Page >>> http://3.ly/systemcontrolmanager
January 20th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
LJ, what is that green light left to the battery light, next to the bluetooth light indicator? the one that we could turn on or off using FN + F8?
January 20th, 2010 at 9:58 pm
@magal,
its the WiFi Light po
January 20th, 2010 at 11:42 pm
the problem is gumagana naman lahat nang FN+special keys ko pero about FN+F8 which is wifi light sabi mo, when i tried to disable it, di naman namatay o nadisable yung wifi? and im quite confused kc may ibang wifi looking button yung FN+F10
January 21st, 2010 at 12:14 am
@mahal,
you mean your wifi light does not come off kahit gamitin mo yung Fn+F8?? if that is the case, you would need to install the Wireless Lan Drivers which is located in the CD Driver it came with or the MSI EX460 site. Try it here >> http://3.ly/Wt7
Ganyan din kasi nangyari sakin noon, but that was when my Windows 7 was just freshly installed, May Wifi na sya all the way, pero walang way to turn it off…. what I did was to install manually the WLan Drivers and it worked like a charm…. I dont know if it would still work pero yung mga nasa CD ko ngaun ayaw na i-accept ng MSI EX460 ko, kasi upgraded na to the latest yung drivers ko. Siguro countermeasure lang yun ng Win7 para di magkaroon ng compatibility issue.
By the way there are 5 Wlan drivers na pwede mo gamitin…
Atheros WLAN Drivers – On MSI EX460 Site
MS-6890/6891 WLAN Driver – On MSI EX460 Site
NB WLAN Drivers – On MSI EX460 Site
Intel WLan Drivers – On MSI EX460 Site
Realtek Wlan Driver – On CD that came along with the Laptop (what Im using)
By the way yung nasa MSI EX460 site may mga 32bit lang, you can try to install that kung i-aacept ng MSI mo, kung ndi ka nagkaroon ng compatibility error like this >> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/campatibilityerror.jpg then you are good to go. Just make sure na once you have successfully installed the driver make sure na you would go to “Control Panel – System Security – Windows Update – Check For Updates” para maudate to a compatible driver young ininstall mo na wireless driver.
After that do a restart tapos try again kung nagwowork na yung WLan Function Key mo (Fn+F8)
By the way yung Fn+F10 which looks like a signal bar, from what I read sa Manual ng MSI EX460, is a 3G function. Bad news is, hindi siya supported ng Model ng MSI natin… here are the screenshots of the MSI EX460 Manual>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/msiex460manual.jpg & http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/msiex460manual2.jpg
January 22nd, 2010 at 12:58 am
hmm thanks for the help LJ ima do that after i’m done watching AI online. anyhow, where’d you get the manual? when I bought my ex460 i was never given a manual just a notebook quick start guide, ce compliance and two cd’s for the drivers.
January 22nd, 2010 at 1:08 am
@mahal,
No prob, the manual, well its not included in my package too, I just downloaded it on the MSI EX460 site here>> http://3.ly/NbTZ
By the way what is AI? I’ve been hearing about it na it started airing na daw, pero ayaw sabihin sakin kung anu yung show na yun…
January 22nd, 2010 at 1:45 am
i’ve installed it na and it worked perfectly as you’ve said. Thank you so much for the help.
Oh my God!!! Who doesn’t know AI? AI is American Idol LJ. lol
January 22nd, 2010 at 1:51 am
@mahal,
good to hear that it works now… Ohh AI is American Idol… Lol… Dumb Me!! Now I know hahahaha
January 22nd, 2010 at 1:49 pm

January 22nd, 2010 at 3:44 pm
@Dref,
First of all this is just my opinion, in the end it would still be your choice…
If you would be opting for performance best bet is to take the option 2, its also the best option kung meron ka nang ibang source to play Blu Ray discs (e.g. PS3, BD Player etc.)
But if you are craving for some HD Goodness then better opt for the 1st option since may BD Optical Drive na sya at that price. Ang pinaka mura na nakita ko na may ganyan specs on an MSI Bran eh tig 40k na. Bang for the buck na kung titignan mo.
Besides, kung option 1 ang pipiliin mo, you can upgrade your RAM naman to 4gig anytime you want.
But, the question is, do you have anything to play with your BD Drive na ba? I mean, you already have Blu Ray Movies at hand waiting to be played? if you have one then go for option 1 na. Its also a good choice kung gusto mo i-future proof ang MSI EX460 since it already has BD Drive.
Other than that pwede din na ang kunin mo is Option 2 only, tapos upgrade mo na lang ang MSI EX460 Optical Drive mo to Blu Ray once available na ang mga Blu Ray Drives na pwede magburn ng Blu Ray DIscs.
Pero isa ko pa tip sau… Parehong mahal ang pricing na binigay sayo…. I got mine with the specs of Option 2 for the price of 31K Brand new.. San shop ba nagbigay sayo ng ganyan price?
January 23rd, 2010 at 9:14 am
Thank you very much!
January 23rd, 2010 at 10:52 am
Yup, maganda po at mataas ang resolution, its ready na nga po for HD and it has Ati Radeon HD4330 na so… designed na nga sya for High Definition, what more pa for Photos…
Really a bang for the buck. if you want naman ng higher display, you can hook it up naman to a bigger display eh, you would just need to have the right tools (cords, connectors etc)
But still I suggest that you see it for yourself na rin. Your eyes won’t lie to you naman. Pwede naman sya itesting kung magugustuhan mo or hindi. As I have said, in the end its still your decision that counts.
January 23rd, 2010 at 9:23 pm
hmm i’d go for option 1 and then upgrade the ram after lol.
LJ, have you updated the vga driver? i am getting a 4.2 rating on windows experience index.
while im getting 4.1 on my other laptop with a 128mb nvidia.
January 24th, 2010 at 2:59 am
@mahal,
hmm, as far as I remember it did update automatically when it was freshly installed, as a matter of fact its the first hardware that was update according to my Update History.
But yeah same here 4.2 on the Graphics… I dont know about the 128mb nvidia, I think its high enough score for the graphics card… and then the rest are on the 5.7 and 5.9 tier…
is the 4.1 of your nvidia the base score on your other laptop?? or is it just a sub score?
January 25th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
Anyone encountered the flickering of LCD with this model? Im planning to buy one but I am hesitating kasi ang dami ko nakikita na possible problems. Oo malaki matitipid pero in the long run yung natipid would be sobra sobra pa sa expense na maincur for the repair.
Regards to all
January 25th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
@ultechm8,
as far as LCD Flickering, nope, haven’t experienced that on my MSI EX460, baka nagkataon na “lemon” yung MSI EX460 na nakuha nung naka experience ng flickering screen???
My tip is once you have bought the MSI EX460, i-stress run mo na kagad sya, para maibalik mo kagad, kasi alam ko may 1 week replacement warranty eh kapag may factory defect yung nakuha mo na laptop. Well it depends din siguro sa napagbilihan, pero sa PCXpress kung san ko binili yung MSI EX460 ko, may replacement warranty, iba pa yung 1 year warranty nya..
Just my two cents…
January 27th, 2010 at 10:10 am
@LJ
Bro, if its not too much to ask, would it be possible you post a screenshot of the ATI Radeon drivers that you selected from the Laptop Driver CD, or provide the exact path of the drivers you selected in the CD . I just noticed something after updating to Win 7 64bit OS, the color and vividness seem to be a bit dull as compared to what it was when I was still using Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Even when viewing Digital pictures. What I tried was the Win7 64 bit VGA drivers. did you install that as well or did you use the Vista 64bit drivers? I tried updating my drivers online but it mentioned that my current ATI drivers needs no updating. I just hope its not a compatibility issue with our Vcard. Cheers!!!
January 27th, 2010 at 10:55 am
Here it is http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/vgadrivers.jpg, its size is 160mb… I believe if you already have installed the latest drivers for your MSI EX460, then mahirap na mainstall yung drivers na nasa cd…
If you can uninstall the display drivers manually through the device manager then that would be the quickest way to install the ones on the cd.
just press the Windows Button+Pause/Break and click Device Manager then choose the display adapters and then right click on the Display Driver you want to uninstall…. Remember though to DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK…. I wont claim any damages that this method does to your MSI EX460… here is the screenshot on where you should be when uninstalling the Display adapaters

January 27th, 2010 at 11:30 am
Thanks for the prompt reply, don’t worry, I won’t hold you responsible pare koy! Plus I already have a full backup just incase. hehe! Hopefully the vividness would be brought back.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
I’m Planning 2 buy MSI ex460 cause of better reviews as compared to others.I’ll be using it for office work and playing DOW2 and other latest games. My question is should I buy now at 32-35k or should I wait until March – April (start of summer) since in theory, all gadgets’ price would fall probably due to low in demand or newer lapping coming out..If the price would fall, by how much? Salamat po…
January 28th, 2010 at 12:09 am
@Pacquiao17P4P
To easily answer your question…. Kung kaya pa magtiis until that time, then go! baka nga mag sale pa itong MSI EX460, pero if you can’t wait anymore then you can find bargains sa Gilmore in New Manila. Baka nga may makuha ka na 29k eh, depende na lang siguro sa lakas mo ng pag haggle hehehe…. Got mine for 31k, when it was priced for 33k. Pwede na diba hehe

February 8th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
@Raphael,
This is what I am using for the Webcam Software which is also available on MSI EX460 Website — http://3.ly/y7O
And regarding the ECO Function Keys, just install the System Control Manager which can be downloaded at MSI EX460 Site which is located here >> http://3.ly/y7O
February 9th, 2010 at 12:08 am
Thanks a lot…all this time, i thought the system control manager is already installed…hehehehe…
thanks a lot…
one more thing, when using ym, mahina ung built in microphone…do i need to install a software/driver???
God bless….tnx in advance
February 9th, 2010 at 12:26 am
The question is, have you already installed its driver? from my MSI EX460, I installed a Realtek Audio Driver… If you already did then you should be able to adjust your microphone’s settings… Just follow these steps>>
Control Panel > Hardware And Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices > Recording Tab > Select your default Mic (if you have a couple of other drivers that supports the mic… on my end it has a green checkmark on it which indicates that it is the Default Mic that I am using) heres a screenshot…. >>> http://3.ly/mFjT
Then click Properties > Levels…. from there you should be able to adjust your Microphone level to your liking… Here’s a screenshot on where you should be >> http://3.ly/H4Vq
Hope that helps!
February 9th, 2010 at 9:58 am
@LJ – Chief, I’ve backread a bit and came across something about touchpad scrolling & touchpad driver for the laptop, can you tell me how the touchpad scrolling works? Do you press the left & right buttons below the touchpad on a webpage to enable it? Aside from that, where did you get your touchpad driver? Do you happen to have a link. Syntelic driver din ba gamit mo gaya nung namention sa previous post. Thanks again!
February 9th, 2010 at 11:55 am
@Olrac Naig,
hmm, I dont remember installing any drivers for my touchpad basta nung pagka install ko ata nung System Control Manager, fully functional na din yung touchpad ng MSI EX460 including the touchpad scrolling… (im gonna update to this once makita ko ulit kung anung drivers na nainstall ko. but as far as I know wala ako nainstall na touchpad drivers… system control manager lang for the touchpad to function properly)
To do the touchpad scrolling, make sure that the touchpad itself is activated (kasi baka deactivated thru FN Keys) and then try sliding your fingers sa Edge ng Touchpad (right click side)…
Note though, make sure that you are on a page that is scrollable of course, because if not then no matter how hard you scroll di yan magscroll :p
Another thing, kung ayaw pa din, magclick ka muna on any “open white spaces” sa page na gusto mo iscroll kasi minsan yung “mouse attention” nandun sa other object like embedded videos or even a window inside a page (this comment page for example, as I am typing this comment may scrolling bar na sa gilid dahil mahaba, so when I use the MSI EX460 touchpad scroll, instead of the page scrolling, ang nagsscroll is itong comment box…
hope that helps!
February 14th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
hello got problem with some games it does not fit the whole screen, checked everything but nothing happens. Thanks
February 19th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
e dba when you install windows 7 automatic na yung mga drivers na ma-install including yung touchpad? kaso yung iba yata hnd compatible..
March 9th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Hi, got mine last january and it works very good, graphics, speed, wifi etc. are in excellent. the only comment./s is the battery life. it only works for about 2 hrs. I wanted to have a new and extended battery like e.g 9 cell, but so far not success in finding in local computer stores. Do you know or anyone where I can buy this 9 cell battery? just also curious to ask where would be the service center for MSI laptops. sorry for being ignorant for this but when I ask the sales clerk where I bought mine in Alabang, they said na dapat dalhin ko sa kanila yung unit and only mention of Cubao for the service center. tnx
March 9th, 2010 at 11:47 am
@allan,
Yeah, I know one store. I was also planning to change batteries just in case… There is a 9 cell Battery for the MSI EX460 on MSI Concept Store on SM Mall Of Asia.
For the price, look at this picture (right click then open in new tab/window for full view)>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/msiproductlist.png
This is the actual brochure from the MSI Concept store and I highlighted the 9 cell battery for the MSI EX460…
If you want to inquire there the details and information of the MSI Concept store is…
msi Concept Store – 2nd Floor, North Parking SM Mall of Asia, Bay Area, Manila – 556-0189 or 556-0190 or 7888-msi(674)
and the service center…. I do agree that it is the one in Cubao the service center is called Net Essentials… here are some details of the MSI Service Center…
Net Essentials #11 8th Ave. Cubao, Quezon City 439-3310 / 421-3795
You might also want another MSI Service center which is located along Mandaluyong area here are the details (forgot the name though)…
Address:173 EDSA CSP Building, Mandaluyong City Philipines
TEL:+632-721-1981
FAX:+632-727-9649
email:info@netessentials.ph
hope that helps!

March 11th, 2010 at 3:21 pm
Dudes may nababasa ako sa tipidpc n when it comes to durability, they prefer AsusK4IN / K4AD over MSI. And sa MSI madami daw mga RMA transactions.. Next week p nmn n po ako bibili sana ng MSI ex460.. So far mga idols, how’s ur lappy doin?
Another thing po is gagana b rito ung Battlefield Bad Company? tnx mga idols
March 11th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Another thing po.. i dunno if this is new pero may nilabas ang MSI model CX 420 sa pc corner availble and e2 po specs with prices..
http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=5354427
anu po sa tingin nio mga bosing?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
so empty nga yung hdmi port? i mean wala talagang hdmi port, slot lang? tama ba?
March 11th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
@Pacquiao17P4P,
I havent heard a lot about RMA transactions, but if my experience with my MSI EX460 no probs naman. wala din ako complaints… maybe other MSI Models ang may RMA transactions, maybe it is on the MSI Wind? I dunno, but I think the MSI Wind is one of the bestseller ngaun when it comes to Netbooks, which might mean more prodcuts being sold on that particular product the higher the chance of “lemon” products….
But if I was in your place, and I do decide to go for MSI, I would make sure that I would put it into the “Stress test” mode para sa umpisa pa lang makikita mo na kung may problem, kasi may return and exchange policy naman ang mga reputable computer shops once you see some defect sa unit na makukuha mo…
or much better, kung as in personal mo makikita yung Asus and MSI units na kinocompare mo, your instincts would not lie to you…
And regarding to the MSI CX420, That is a new one, kasi yung mga models na kalinya nya is core 2 duo pa, samantalang itong new model is a Core i3 na… plus mataas na yung video card.. i think you should better go for that if you ever decide to go for the MSI Brand….
March 11th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
@melster,
Yup tama, walang HDMI socket, I think sa ibang models with the same body as the MSI EX460 meron na kasamang functional port…
March 18th, 2010 at 12:32 pm

March 29th, 2010 at 9:26 am
sir. i already installed Sys control manager, and still no luck in enabling touchpad scrolling, anyone please help? C:
March 29th, 2010 at 1:04 pm
@Ced,
hmm, try this one,,, go to webpage or a window or Microsoft word or anywhere, where you can be able to scroll, now the next thing that you do is to tap once on the page or window, just tap once on a blank space, and then start dragging your finger on the edge of the touchpad (right mouse button side)… I have put a diagram on the spot where you can do the touchpad scrolling here’s the image —->>>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/iceblade_bladestone/blog/msiscrollkeycopy.png

I have EX460 also kaso whenever i’m using the built in mic and its webcam i’m not satisfied
sa built-in mic you have to be near so that the person you are talking to can hear your message – I have to buy an external mic to remedy this problem
worst is the built-in webcam – even in good lighting condition blurred pa din – comparing my EX460 1.3 webcam to ACER’s 1.3 webcam lampaso ag akin – aAcer’s built-in webcam sends a clear picture
pano maso solve ang problem sa webcam?

The only problem is overheating and when I tried to reformat my laptop with same OS, it shutdown (totally turned off) during OS installation.
