I have been visiting uMobile since early August 2008. I was attracted by their service, but the only way to sign up for their service is through invites. I am still waiting for an invite though.
But what is uMobile anyway? Well uMobile is…
ümobile is the first ad-funded mobile service provider in Asia. They provide mobile services that are simple, rich and engaging and have a brand image that is friendly and accessible. Their brand is all about providing mobile services with our customers in mind
ümobile is an exclusive by invitation-only mobile community for 15-35 year olds. Because it’s ad-funded, you get a mobile experience that’s rich, exciting and most of all, surprisingly free.
Simply put, uMobile is another mobile service, just like the Globe, Smart, Sun Cellular, and the like. But this one is only attainable through invites. You just can’t get this uMobile simcard anywhere, you will be screened first before they will deliver the simcard to you through a courier.
By the way, their target markets are the individuals who are aged 15 - 35 years old, and are currently living here in the Philippines.
What about their coverage? Well their coverage is not like the early days of sun cellular wherein the signal is crappy and making calls can give you finger calluses before you get to have a contact. uMobile’s coverage is dependent on Smart Cellular’s cell sites. They have had an agreement with Smart Cellular Company and were given permission to use Smart’s cell sites, therefore, uMobile’s coverage is nationwide.
What about the rates? Well I was surprised by the rates that they have had on their uMobile to uMobile messaging for only 0.15 centavos! Well as far as I am concerned, my Globe credits are being eaten whenever I register for sulitxt and unlitxt so I think this is an alternate solution for me!
Here are their rates
